A grand opening celebration has been set for 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, at American Bank & Trust’s new branch at 1600 Fifth Ave., Rock Island.

The celebration, which is open to the public, will feature prize give-aways and refreshments. There will also be free items for children.

American Bank recently opened its new branch in the renovated two-story office building, which was the former site of US Bank. The bank’s drive-thru and walk-in teller areas opened for business in early September. The new branch, which replaces American Bank’s temporary branch at 2013 Second Ave., does not have a traditional lobby area.

The renovation project cost about $700,000, said Chuck Sorensen, chief operating officer with American Bank.

That second floor — divided up into three new offices — will likely be rented out to one or more businesses that are looking for a new home, he said. “The view will really be awesome from those offices.”

Rachel Culleny, a lead banker at American Bank & Trust’s new branch, said the branch previously was located in a temporary trailer in downtown Rock Island for about a year before the new building was available.

“The City of Rock Island is very excited to see this empty building be revitalized and productive again,” Rock Island Mayor Mike Thoms said in a previous news release. “American Bank & Trust has been committed to, and part of, the City of Rock Island for many years. They are continuing this tradition by committing to this new location downtown Rock Island.”

American Bank President and CEO Jeff Rose said “100% of the shareholders and 100% of the management team” from American Bank are based in the Quad Cities.

“We are proud of our heritage with the city of Rock Island… and look forward to investing in the future of the city,” Mr. Rose added.
