American Bank & Trust

Pocket Change

Your Digital Change Jar

Remember when we paid for everything with cash?

At the end of the day, we'd come home, dump all that change into a bowl or jar and watch it pile up day after day. Eventually, you'd cash it all in and end up with a nice little sum. How much cash do you use today? Us too, and we miss that little extra savings boost. That's why we created Pocket Change. Think of Pocket Change as your digital change jar.

For each purchase you make with your American Bank & Trust, N.A. debit card, we'll round it up to the nearest whole U.S. dollar and transfer the rounded-up amount (between $0.01 and $0.99) from your checking account to another account of your choice (checking or savings). Neat, right?

To sign up, contact us or visit a branch.

Not convinced yet?

Let’s look at a typical day’s potential savings. We call this the After Work Rush:

You stop to fill your tank after work: $32.33, while you're waiting for the tank to fill up …

you decide to do some online shopping and buy a new pair of work shoes: $42.60, you forgot you need groceries: $75.50, and after all that you're certainly not going to want to cook, so you pick up a pizza for dinner: $20.25.

By the time you get home, you've banked $2.32 in savings. If this were similar for each workday (5 days a week) with 52 work weeks, you'd have a savings of $603.20 by the end of the year.

What you choose to do with that money is up to you. Spend it all on groceries and gas, transfer it to a child's college savings account transfer it to a Money Market, or invest in that tasty local pizza shop.

Choose to donate.

With the Pocket Change Charity Program, you can choose to donate your digital pocket change to one of our selected charities. Every month-end, on the last day of the statement cycle, the aggregate Pocket Change Savings for the month will be transferred to the designated charitable fund.

Pocket Change Charity Program charities include:

  • Northern IL Food Pantry
  • Quad City Canine Assistance
  • One Eighty
  • YWCA
  • Children’s Therapy Center of the QC
